Movement Guidance Philosophies
The Philosophy
My only role in your movement journey is safe and gentle guidance. I like to think of movement using several different metaphors, my favorite being the Designer and the Architect. When we exchange movement in the same space (i.e. when you take a class with me), The sequences and curriculum taught are only templates of what movement could be.
I will guide you through a blueprint but ultimately you are the “Architect” creating a movement language that comes naturally to you. Hopefully by the end of our time together you will begin the process of putting all the internal and external pieces of your movement abilities into an endless tool box.
Your movement journey is special, there is nothing quite like experiencing the interconnectivity of the mind and body. I hope you find it in yourself to treat yourself and your journey with support, gentleness, and sensitivity. I hope you let it be a long, slow, and relaxing journey as you cherish each breathe and experience of flow. I am honored to be a small fragment of what will become your practice.
Guidance Style and Technique
I like to guide movers through sessions by providing resources and demonstrations but also encouraging students to try things at their own pace. This means we will always move in progressions.
What are Progressions?
We start with the most foundational variations and slowly progress into more challenging options. This emphasizes an understanding of muscle engagement and technique. Bodies are vastly different every day, some days you may not be as interested in harder variations. You will be the judge of where you want to play within this range. You can play with simpler variations or work on harder progressions.
